Family: Father Jack Carlen is director of IT management for federal programs and lives in Germantown, Md. Mother Cindy Carlen is director of sales for Champion College Solutions in charge of selling financial assistance to different colleges and lives in Scottsdale, Ariz. Brother Jarrett is a technical producer at a local radio station in Phoenix, Ariz.

Community activities: "I coordinate and staff alternative break trips for students. During Rutgers' recent spring break March 15-19, our trip was to New Orleans to help rebuilding and other projects. The previous year we were in Guatemala."

Hobbies: "I like to go to the gym, go shopping in New York and at the malls, and hang out with friends."

Self-portrait: "I'm enthusiastic, energetic, friendly, approachable, a people person and usually happy."

Motto: "Think positive. There is no point in being negative."

Greatest accomplishment: "Getting a job right after graduating from the University of Arizona in 2008."

Favorite TV Shows: "The just ended 'Bachelor'. I watch shows on MTV and watch American Idol and Dancing with the Stars."

Favorite food: "Sushi".

Best childhood memory: "Holidays with my family especially Hanukkah because we got lots of presents. My birthday is July 4. My memories usually we were at the beach and sometimes there would be a little parade."

People don't know that I... "I used to play to the cello in elementary and middle school."

Last book I read: "'The Notebook,' by Nicholas Sparks. I'm a big fan of his romantic novels. He also wrote 'A Walk to Remember' and 'Dear John,' a movie currently playing."

The biggest asset in the local Jewish community: "For Rutgers Hillel, it is our donors who let us function, our staff, because we collaborate together and make our Hillel what it is, and the students. We try to be as much of a student-run organization as possible."

The biggest problem in the local Jewish communities: "Money to complete the construction of the new Hillel building that is only halfway completed at this time."

If I had more time, I would: "Visit my friends and family who live far from here."
