Family: Married almost 30 years to Clara, an elementary school Spanish teacher in Scotch Plains. They have two sons, Joshua, 25, and Jeremy, 23, who live with them. Brother Alan is a physician married to Leizbeth. They live in Slingerlands, N.Y., with their three children. Brother Danny, an architect, is married to Michell and lives in Albany, N.Y. They have three children. Sister Linda is married to David Ginsberg and they live in Albany with their two sons. Parents Harris and Pearl Sanders live in Albany.

Community Activities: Current president of Congregation Beth Israel Scotch Plains. Member of Congregation Beth Israel for 10 years. Past chairman of CBI Finance committee.

Hobbies: ''We travel often. I run and cycle and school keeps me busy.''

Self portrait: ''I value efficiency. I enjoy keeping up with current events. I enjoy education. I like to think of myself as someone who is always interested in furthering his own education. I enjoy teaching. I like to stay active. I have a fairly eclectic set of interests.''

Greatest accomplishment: ''Having a strong family and having an interesting career and a broader interesting family life with our family. I had a career in banking with JP Morgan for 20 years. In my job I had to travel internationally. I took pride in the fact that I could follow, understand, maybe synthesize events in other countries around the world for the people that I worked with.''

Bad habits: ''I'm probably am a little too pessimistic at times and I am impatient.''

Favorite TV: ''Only thing I watch on TV is sports and 'The Office'.''

Favorite food: ''I like a lot of foods. I have wide-ranging palate but no favorites.''

Best childhood memory: ''When my mother took my brother Alan and I to the last game of the 1969 World Series between the Mets and the Baltimore Orioles in New York and the Mets won by the score of 5 to 3.''

People don't know that I... ''Am fluent in Spanish and Portuguese and went to Jewish Day School for three years (4th, 5th, and 6th grades) in Albany.''

Last book I read: '''Wilderness Warrior' by Douglas Brinkley. It's a biography of Theodore Roosevelt with the focus on Roosevelt's concerns about conservation.''

The biggest asset in the local Jewish community: ''Our synagogue, Congregation Beth Israel, because of the clergy and the people we have in our synagogue.''

The biggest problem in the Jewish community: ''The lack of commitment on the part of parents.''

If I had more time, I would: ''Read more and visit with friends more and take more classes. I would like to learn more about art history.''
