THE JEWISH STATE April 16, 2010
LANGER. Mrs. Anne Stern Langer died March 28, 2010. She was 95. Born in New York City to Emanuel Max Stern and Pepi Eva Tepper, immigrants to the United States fleeing World War I, Mrs. Langer grew up in the Lower East Side and the Bronx, and graduated from Washington Irving High School. She married David Langer on Feb. 12, 1938. Trained as a bookkeeper, she worked in various venues in New York, and moved to Brooklyn. She and her family moved in 1955 to Woodbridge, remaining until 1996. While raising her sons, she worked as a bookkeeper at the Frantell boutique, the Reo Diner in Woodbridge, and Witty's Liquor in Perth Amboy. She was active in Congregation Adath Israel-Woodbridge Jewish Community Center, participating in the Sisterhood and Hadassah. She also volunteered in the Auxiliary of Perth Amboy General Hospital, usually in the pediatric ward. She relocated with her husband in 1996 to Highland Park, where her husband died in 1998. In 1996 she also joined the Highland Park Minyan and the Highland Park Conservative Temple. As she lived her life, she died peacefully in the presence of her family. A quiet ''people-person,'' she was known for her devotion to her immediate and extended family, and to her community; for her recognition of the uniqueness and beauty of each person with whom she came in contact, whether a family member or a seat-mate on a bus; and for her empathy and understanding of people and their situations. An avid reader, she had a love for handcrafts, theater, dance, music, and the simple beauties of everyday nature and life. Her strength, convictions, and resilience were quiet but firm.
